Description:
Through a deep dive into a clinical case study with an Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (ANCDS) Board-Certified Clinician, this session will challenge critical thinking and clinical decision making in the differential diagnosis and management of a functional motor speech disorder. Evidence based assessment and intervention techniques will be reviewed.
Learner Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Outline neuropathological considerations for differential diagnosis.
- Describe assessment procedures to assist with differential diagnosis.
- Outline evidenced based clinical practice interventions.
- Discuss the benefits of interdisciplinary team management.
Speaker Bio:
Michelle Hoefnagel has over 16 years of clinical expertise as a speech language pathologist. She currently works at the UF Health Jacksonville Leon L. Haley Jr., M.D., Brain Wellness Program in Florida where she collaborates with an extensive interdisciplinary team in evaluating and treating military veterans and first responders who have experienced a mild-moderate traumatic brain injury. She is honored to provide care within her role to give back to this incredible population to improve their cognitive-communication and quality of life. She completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Theoretical Linguistics with a Minor in French giving her a unique and skilled perspective on language. She then went on to receive her Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Utah. Michelle has extensive experience across the continuum of healthcare providing skilled services to people with various difficulties including swallow, voice, speech, language, pragmatics, communication, and cognition. She has been a primary investigator in research in collaboration with Georgia Tech. She spent five years as a member of a multidisciplinary head and neck cancer team at the Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, NY. She is excited to have earned her ANCDS Board Certification and looks forward to her continued personal and professional growth.

No refunds will be issued after course completion or for non-completion after the course expiration date.
