The purpose of this webinar is to illustrate t hrough research and case examples procedures used by speech-language pathol ogists and a multidisciplinary team to manage the neurobehavioral and neuro cognitive symptoms experienced by college athletes following mild-traumatic brain injury. Elements for successful program development, implementation , and team collaboration will be discussed, along with the critical need fo r SLP involvement in student athlete education and support pre- and post-in jury.

Kelly Knollman-Po rter, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Robert H. and Nancy J. Blayney Endowed Associate Professor and is Program Director for the Concussion Management Clinic in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Miami University in Oxf ord, Ohio. Dr. Knollman-Porter also directs the Language and Cognition Lab where she conducts clinical research aimed at improving the quality of life for adults with cognitive and communication disorders following stroke, mi ld-traumatic brain injury, and dementia through the development of evidence -based patient-centered restorative and compensatory treatments. In additi on to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Knollman-Porter enjoys providing s tudents opportunities for engagement in real-world clinical activities and often mentors undergraduate and graduate students on research projects.
